Tasting Room Manager

The Tasting Room Manager is responsible for promoting and selling Fisher King wines to the public, as well as managing all aspects of the tasting room and staff to ensure that winery visitors have a great experience. The position will oversee the tasting and sale of wine and non-wine products at the winery to maximize sales potential. The manager will oversee the daily operations of the Tasting Room ensuring that the team is providing exceptional customer service and promoting our high-quality wines to make the experience at Fisher King Winery memorable for every visitor. Candidate must possess a Wisconsin alcohol server’s certificate or be willing and able to obtain one upon hire. Candidate will need to apply for and become a licensed alcohol server with the City of Verona.

Job Description Details:​

Interacting with the public

  • Greet visitors as they enter the winery and invite them for a tasting.
  • Coordinate with tasting room staff to efficiently manage visitors.
  • Provide the latest information on the wines, techniques, history and be able to respond to visitors’ questions.
  • Train tasting room staff on all information pertaining to wines and on generating a positive visitor experience.
  • Effectively sell and train staff to sell the wine.
  • Oversee sales at the register and train staff on our Point of Sale system (POS).
  • Promote the Case Club and other similar programs to customers.
  • Provide exceptional service by referring other wineries and local restaurants, etc.
  • Merchandise the tasting room displays to effectively sell wine, cheese and other products.
  • Educate the public on where to find Fisher King wines at retail, restaurant and outside events.
  • Maintain a friendly, warm and clean tasting room environment (indoor and outdoor areas)

Behind the scenes

  • Schedule tasting room staff
  • Clean, organize and re-stock tasting room. Make certain that tasting room surfaces and both bathrooms are cleaned daily.
  • Oversee the opening/closing procedures for sales.
  • Manage the inventory of wines for tastings and sales.
  • Check inventory of non-wine merchandise, food, beverages and supplies and place orders with vendors on a weekly basis.
  • Train staff and assure that proper sanitary procedures are followed for all food related tasks in the tasting room and catering kitchen.
  • Post and/or promote weekly information on upcoming events, winery news, and musical performances on the winery’s Facebook page, website, area event listings, winery newsletter, and other social and media outlets.
  • Oversee and co-ordinate events; work with tasting room staff to promote, book, and manage private and public events at the winery.
  • Manage trash and recycling system.
  • Manage tasting room team by delegating necessary daily duties.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.


  • Minimum 3 years winery, brewery, restaurant or retail experience.
  • Must be a team player and possess a proactive “can do” leadership attitude.
  • Must be highly motivated, independent and able to take direction from owners.
  • Previous managerial experience in hiring, training, supervising and scheduling employees is a plus.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively.
  • Able to multi-task and successfully work with large crowds of people when the tasting room is busy.
  • Extensive knowledge of wines and wine production helpful but not required.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Ability to develop, implement and reach sales goals.
  • Ability to provide customers with an unforgettable wine tasting experience.
  • Must be able to work weekends, some evenings and some holidays.
  • Must be detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift and bend for us to 8 hours/day.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Tasting Room Server

This position is responsible for ensuring that customers have a positive and memorable experience at Fisher King Winery. The candidate must have a passion for wine and for learning the details of the wines we produce and our general operations. Responsibilities include: greeting customers promptly and courteously; guiding customers to wines they enjoy; setting up and cleaning up after daily operations and special events; stocking wine and retail merchandise in the tasting room; accurately performing money handling procedures. Promotes the sale of wine and non-wine products sold in the Tasting Room. Describes wines, winemaking techniques, winery history and provides general tourist information. Candidate must possess a Wisconsin alcohol server’s certificate or be willing and able to obtain one upon hire. Candidate will need to apply for and become a licensed alcohol server with the City of Verona.

  • Handles routine purchasing transactions, which include operating cash register; performs opening and closing functions as needed
  • Stocks the tasting room with wine and merchandise inventory
  • Acquires and maintains thorough knowledge of winery and our wines
  • Performs routine cleaning
  • Work in a team environment and open to performing other duties as assigned


  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Interest in wine, and learning about wine & the wine industry
  • Reliable, dependable, and responsible; able to think and act like an owner
  • Able to work a flexible schedule
  • High school diploma or equivalent and/or qualified experience required
  • Retail experience a plus; knowledge of wine a plus.

  • Flexible Shifts that may include weekday afternoons, weekends, select holidays and some evenings
